Born from a growing market of old electronics and little accommodation for E-Waste in the Calgary market, Technotrash began in 2004 as a numbered company becoming fully incorporated in 2006. Technotrash is an Alberta Government approved Electronics Recycling Program.
When Alberta went through the economic slowdown in 2009 Technotrash experienced a major drop in material recycling. As the economy began to slow again in 2014 Technotrash decided they needed to cut operating costs, the biggest being their rent in Calgary. They began exploring options outside of, but still close to, Calgary. This search lead them to quickly see that surrounding areas had been impacted by the rising cost of rent as well. Technotrash decided if they were to relocate any further they needed a location to serve all of Southern Alberta.
Taber was chosen because of its location at the crossing of Highway 3 and 36, nearly in the middle of Lethbridge and Medicine Hat. With a young population to serve as a workforce, and all the available amenities Taber was the ideal choice. Being located in central southern Alberta, Technotrash is able to serve close to 300,000 people within 1 hour’s drive of Taber. They have maintained their existing clients in Calgary while expanding their coverage area by 25%. Technotrash opened for business in Taber in 2016.
