Taxes

The province of Alberta offers no provincial retail sales tax, no provincial capital tax, and no provincial payroll tax.  In addition to having the lowest gasoline tax in Canada, Alberta’s corporate tax rates are also among the lowest in Canada.  Combined, Alberta's taxes are some of the lowest in the country.  Taber also offers competitive property tax rates for both businesses and residents.

The Alberta 2016 Budget introduced the Alberta Jobs Plan to strengthen and diversify the economy. $250 million has been committed to support job creators and encourage business capital investment, attract new businesses to Alberta, support regional economic development and improve access to training opportunities. Some of the highlights include:

  • $75 million for a Capital Investment Tax Credit to support businesses in the first time purchase of new capital,
  • $25 million for attracting and supporting new businesses including support for small and medium businesses, supporting the expansion of food processing opportunities, and attracting new major businesses or headquarters in Alberta, and
  • $25 million dedicated to the Alberta Enterprise Corporation to spur innovation and support companies in areas such as clean technology.
